Complete guide to setting up MetaMask for LinQup

MetaMask Setup Guide

MetaMask is the most popular crypto wallet and works seamlessly with LinQup. This guide will walk you through the complete setup.

Installation

For Desktop

  1. Visit metamask.io
  2. Click "Download"
  3. Select your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Edge)
  4. Click "Add to [Browser]"
  5. Pin the extension to your browser toolbar

For Mobile

  1. Download MetaMask app:
  2. Open the app

Creating Your Wallet

Step 1: Get Started

  1. Open MetaMask extension/app
  2. Click "Create a new wallet"
  3. Agree to terms of use

Step 2: Create Password

  1. Create a strong password (8+ characters)
  2. Confirm password
  3. Click "Create a new wallet"

⚠️ This password only protects this device. Your seed phrase is what truly controls your wallet.

Step 3: Secure Your Seed Phrase

This is the most important step.

  1. Click "Secure my wallet"
  2. Watch the security video (recommended)
  3. Click "Reveal Secret Recovery Phrase"
  4. Write down all 12 words in order
  5. Store them somewhere safe (not on your computer!)

⚠️ Critical Security Rules

DO:

  • ✅ Write seed phrase on paper
  • ✅ Store in a safe place (fireproof safe, bank vault)
  • ✅ Make 2-3 copies in different locations
  • ✅ Tell a trusted family member where it is

DON'T:

  • ❌ Take a screenshot
  • ❌ Save in a file on your computer
  • ❌ Email it to yourself
  • ❌ Share it with anyone (not even MetaMask support!)
  • ❌ Store it in cloud storage

💀 If you lose your seed phrase and forget your password, your funds are gone forever. No one can recover them.

Step 4: Confirm Seed Phrase

  1. Click "Next"
  2. Select the words in correct order
  3. Click "Confirm"

✅ Wallet created! You now have a crypto wallet.

Adding Polygon Network

LinQup uses Polygon network for low fees. Add it to MetaMask:

  1. Visit linqup.stream
  2. Connect your wallet
  3. When prompted, click "Approve" to add Polygon network
  4. Click "Switch network"

Manual Method

If automatic doesn't work:

  1. Open MetaMask
  2. Click network dropdown (top center)
  3. Click "Add network"
  4. Click "Add a network manually"
  5. Enter these details:

Polygon Mainnet:

  • Network Name: Polygon Mainnet
  • RPC URL: https://polygon-rpc.com
  • Chain ID: 137
  • Currency Symbol: MATIC
  • Block Explorer: https://polygonscan.com
  1. Click "Save"
  2. Click "Switch to Polygon Mainnet"

Getting MATIC for Gas

You need a tiny amount of MATIC for transaction fees (~$0.01 per transaction).

Option 1: Polygon Faucet

Get free MATIC (small amount):

  1. Visit faucet.polygon.technology
  2. Connect wallet
  3. Click "Submit"
  4. Wait ~1 minute

Option 2: Bridge from Ethereum

If you have ETH:

  1. Use Polygon Bridge
  2. Bridge small amount of ETH to Polygon
  3. Swap for MATIC on Polygon

Option 3: Buy Directly

Purchase through an exchange and withdraw to Polygon network.

Your Wallet Address

Your wallet address is like your bank account number - it's safe to share publicly.

To copy your address:

  1. Open MetaMask
  2. Click your account name (top center)
  3. Click copy icon next to your address

It looks like: 0x742d35Cc6634C0532925a3b844Bc9e7595f0bEb5

This is your:

  • Receive address - Where people send you money
  • Widget address - What creators use for their widget
  • Public identity - How the blockchain knows you

Security Best Practices

Enable Additional Security

  1. Turn on auto-lock

    • Settings → Auto-lock timer → 5 minutes

  2. Enable privacy mode (mobile)

    • Settings → Privacy & Security → Privacy Mode

  3. Verify domains before signing

Recognizing Scams

⚠️ MetaMask/LinQup will NEVER:

  • Ask for your seed phrase
  • Ask for your private key
  • Ask you to send ETH/MATIC to "verify" your wallet
  • Contact you first via DM

✅ Always verify:

  • You're on the correct website
  • The wallet you're connecting to is yours
  • The transaction details before approving

Troubleshooting

"Insufficient funds" error

You need MATIC for gas fees. See "Getting MATIC for Gas" above.

Can't see my transaction

  1. Make sure you're on Polygon network
  2. Check Polygonscan with your address
  3. Transactions can take 2-10 seconds

Wrong network

Click network dropdown → Select Polygon Mainnet
