Getting USDC

How to get USDC on Polygon network for LinQup

Getting USDC on Polygon

To use LinQup as a supporter, you need USDC on the Polygon network. This guide covers all methods.

What is USDC?

USDC is a stablecoin - cryptocurrency that's always worth $1.

Why USDC?

  • ✅ Stable ($1 = 1 USDC always)
  • ✅ No crypto price volatility
  • ✅ Easy to understand
  • ✅ Widely supported
  • ✅ Backed by real USD reserves

Different from:

  • Bitcoin - Price fluctuates wildly
  • Ethereum - Price changes daily
  • Other cryptos - Too volatile for subscriptions

Method 1: Bridge from Another Chain

Best if: You already have USDC on Ethereum or another chain

###Step 1: Get to Polygon Bridge

Visit wallet.polygon.technology/polygon/bridge

Step 2: Connect Wallet

  1. Click "Connect Wallet"
  2. Select MetaMask
  3. Approve connection

Step 3: Bridge USDC

  1. From: Select your current network (e.g., Ethereum)
  2. To: Polygon
  3. Token: USDC
  4. Amount: How much to bridge
  5. Click "Transfer"
  6. Approve transaction in MetaMask

Step 4: Wait

  • Ethereum → Polygon: ~7-10 minutes
  • Other chains: Varies

Gas fees: Depends on source chain. Ethereum is expensive ($5-20), other chains cheaper.

Method 2: Buy Directly on Polygon

Best if: You want USDC directly on Polygon, no bridging

Option A: Centralized Exchanges

  1. Buy USDC on exchange (Coinbase, Binance, Kraken, etc.)
  2. Withdraw to your MetaMask address
  3. Important: Select Polygon network for withdrawal!

Exchanges supporting Polygon withdrawal:

  • Binance ✅
  • KuCoin ✅
  • Crypto.com ✅
  • OKX ✅
  • Coinbase ❌ (Ethereum only)

Fees: Usually $1-5 withdrawal fee

Option B: On-Ramps (Fiat → Crypto)

Buy USDC directly with credit card/bank:

Transak:

  1. Visit transak.com
  2. Select: Polygon network, USDC token
  3. Enter amount & wallet address
  4. Complete KYC
  5. Pay with card/bank

Fees: ~3-5% + card fees

MoonPay:

  1. Visit moonpay.com
  2. Similar process to Transak

Ramp:

  1. Visit ramp.network
  2. Similar process

Pros:

  • Easy for beginners
  • Use regular payment methods

Cons:

  • Higher fees
  • Requires KYC
  • Lower limits initially

Method 3: Swap on Polygon

Best if: You have other tokens on Polygon (ETH, MATIC, etc.)

Using QuickSwap (DEX)

  1. Visit quickswap.exchange
  2. Connect MetaMask
  3. Select: Your token → USDC
  4. Enter amount
  5. Click "Swap"
  6. Approve transaction

Gas fees: ~$0.01-0.05

Using 1inch (Aggregator)

Gets you best price across multiple DEXes:

  1. Visit app.1inch.io
  2. Switch to Polygon network
  3. Select tokens to swap
  4. Click "Swap"

How Much USDC Do I Need?

Calculation

For streaming $X/month:

  • 1 month = $X
  • 3 months = $3X
  • 6 months = $6X

Example: $10/month stream

  • $10 USDC = 1 month
  • $30 USDC = 3 months
  • $60 USDC = 6 months

Recommendations

💡 Start small: $10-20 to test

💡 Budget monthly: Add $X every month

💡 Multiple creators: $X × number of streams

Don't Forget: MATIC for Gas

You also need tiny amount of MATIC (~$0.50) for transaction fees.

Getting MATIC:

  • Same methods as USDC
  • Polygon faucet (free small amount)
  • Swap USDC → MATIC on QuickSwap

Verifying You Have USDC

Check in MetaMask

  1. Open MetaMask
  2. Switch to Polygon Mainnet
  3. Look for USDC in token list

Don't see USDC? Add it manually:

  • Token address: 0x3c499c542cEF5E3811e1192ce70d8cC03d5c3359
  • Symbol: USDC
  • Decimals: 6

Check on Polygonscan

  1. Visit polygonscan.com
  2. Enter your wallet address
  3. Click "Token" dropdown
  4. Look for USDC

Next Steps

Now that you have USDC:

  1. Convert to USDCx - For streaming
  2. Start Supporting - Use it!

Common Issues

"Insufficient funds" error

You need MATIC for gas fees, not just USDC.

USDC on wrong network

Make sure it's on Polygon, not Ethereum. Check network in MetaMask.

Can't find USDC in wallet

Add the token manually (see "Verifying You Have USDC" above).

Bridge taking too long

Ethereum → Polygon can take 10-20 minutes during high traffic. Be patient.

Safety Tips

⚠️ Always verify:

  • You're on Polygon network
  • Correct USDC contract address
  • Website URLs before connecting wallet

⚠️ Start small:

  • Test with $10 first
  • Make sure everything works
  • Then add more

⚠️ Beware of scams:

  • Only use official bridges/exchanges
  • Never share your seed phrase
  • Double-check all addresses
